Mythology

This is one of our smaller categories, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. What is here has been recorded with care: gods and mortals, vows and consequences, the old questions about duty and desire that no civilisation has finished answering.

Myths reward slow listening. They were composed for audiences who already knew the ending and came anyway, for the telling. If a story feels familiar, let it be familiar. The pleasure is in how it arrives, not whether it surprises you.

A myth is not a fable with a tidy moral at the end. It is a way of thinking aloud about things too large to argue directly. What is owed to family. What happens when power meets restraint. Why the just are not always spared.

The versions gathered here come from more than one tradition and more than one language. Hearing them near each other makes the echoes hard to miss. A flood, a wager, a promise kept at terrible cost, told in Marathi and Tamil and Spanish alike.

Many of these stories were originally meant for mixed company, with children present and adults listening over their shoulders. They can carry weight, so a little judgement helps when choosing what to play and when.
