Once upon a time, nestled in a gentle green valley, there lived three siblings named Emma, Lucas, and Sofia. Each was clever in their own way, and together they cared for a small patch of land filled with wildflowers, fruit trees, and chirping birds. The valley was peaceful, and the siblings spent their days laughing, exploring, and imagining great adventures.
One morning, while picking blueberries, Emma spotted something unusual—a trail of large paw prints winding through the dewy grass. Her eyes widened as she called out to her brother and sister. “Lucas! Sofia! Look at these tracks! They’re much too big for a rabbit or a fox.”
The three followed the tracks to the edge of the forest, where they stopped and listened. Suddenly, they heard a low, rumbling growl. From behind a tree stepped a wolf, his fur as gray as storm clouds and his eyes sharp and bright.
“Good morning, little ones,” the wolf said with a sly grin. “I’ve come to see if there’s anything tasty in this valley.”
Emma stood tall, though her knees trembled. “This is our home, Mr. Wolf. We won’t let you gobble us up.”
The wolf’s eyes glinted. “We’ll see about that,” he chuckled, disappearing back into the woods. The siblings hurried home, realizing they needed to find a way to keep themselves safe.
That evening, the three gathered around their kitchen table. Emma, the eldest, spoke first. “We need to build houses—strong ones—to protect ourselves from the wolf.”
Lucas chimed in eagerly, “Let’s each build our own, and we’ll see whose is the strongest.”
Sofia, the youngest, nodded. “But we should help each other and use our best ideas!”
The next day, the siblings set to work. Lucas, who was quick and energetic, decided to build his house from straw. “It’s light and easy to stack,” he said. By lunchtime, Lucas’s house stood finished. He grinned and danced around it. “See how fast I am? Nothing will catch me!”
Emma, careful and precise, chose sticks for her house. She wove them together tightly. “Sticks are stronger than straw,” she explained. “My house will hold up even better.” She worked all afternoon, tying and weaving, until her house stood tall among the trees.
Meanwhile, Sofia, quiet and thoughtful, picked up heavy stones from the riverbank. She stacked them slowly, her hands sore but determined. Each stone found its place, and although it took her the whole day and part of the next, her house was sturdy and snug. As the sun set, Sofia wiped her brow and smiled with pride.
Just as Sofia finished her roof, the wolf reappeared, his eyes gleaming in the twilight. He padded over to Lucas’s straw house and growled, “Little one, let me in!”
Lucas peeked out the window and shouted, “Not by the fur on my tail, I won’t!”
With a huff and a puff, the wolf blew the straw house down. Lucas yelped and ran as fast as he could to Emma’s house of sticks.
The wolf followed, licking his lips as he reached the stick house. “Little ones, let me in!”
Emma and Lucas called back together, “Not by the fur on our tails, we won’t!”
The wolf snarled, took a deep breath, and blew with all his might. The sticks creaked, wobbled, and then tumbled down. Emma and Lucas grabbed hands and raced to Sofia’s stone house.
Breathless, the three siblings squeezed inside. The wolf soon arrived, more determined than ever. “Little ones, let me in!”
Sofia, her voice steady, called back, “Not by the fur on our tails, we won’t!”
The wolf snorted and blew, but the stone house didn’t budge. He blew again, harder and longer, but the walls stayed strong. Tired and confused, the wolf slumped to the ground.
Inside, the siblings celebrated quietly. “Your house saved us, Sofia,” whispered Emma. “You worked so hard!”
Sofia shook her head. “We all did our best. But together, we’re even stronger.”
Realizing he couldn’t outwit the clever siblings, the wolf finally gave up. He slunk away into the night, disappearing into the forest.
From that day on, the siblings stuck together, always helping one another. Their valley was peaceful once more, and whenever they spotted wolf tracks, they remembered how courage, effort, and teamwork had kept them safe.
And every night, under a sky full of stars, Emma, Lucas, and Sofia slept soundly in the sturdy stone house they built—with love, perseverance, and one another.
